Hello everyone! Welcome to our very first blog post.
I would like to start by saying, Karewiches is more than just a sandwich shop. We are a family
who welcomes you into our lives with open arms and homemade food.
We will use this space to share the stories that have helped to inspire and shape Karewiches,
as well as any special events or products. It’s been quite a journey opening our first family
business and we look forward to sharing it with you. After all, we are family now.
You have read “Our Story” on the home page so let’s start with a personal introduction to our
family. Let’s get started.
First up, our founder, Head Baker and most importantly Mother
What Karewich is your favorite?
Karewiches started off as a dream, what made you believe in turning this dream into reality?
I believe in them because they are GOOD! I might be bias but the dough/bread is the best ever!
Since Karewiches is just starting as a passion project, what is your current full time job?
I own and operate a family daycare in my home. Something I have done for over 40 years.
We know how busy life can get so it was important to make Karewiches accessible to those of
us that work crazy hours and have busy schedules. Here are some of the things in our hectic
lives we considered when planning Karewiches.
How many hours do you work a week?
Usually around 70, sometimes more.
How many times a week do you cook at home?
I aim for 6 times.
Who does the majority of the cooking in your home?
Do you pre plan meals?
Not really, sometimes I have a plan then it all changes anyway. Lol.
Family is our backbone and really who we are as a company. Let’s explore what makes family
so special to us!
What do you do when you aren’t working?
Spend time with family, usually cooking or eating out.
What is your favorite family memory?
The summer trips to the lake when the kids were little.
When was your last meal with your family and what did you eat?
It was actually just two days ago! I made ribs on the grill and invited the kids over. I decided to
keep it simple since I’m working so much I don’t want a family meal to be stressful.
What is the meal or recipe that best reminds you of your childhood?
Chili and Homemade Cinnamon Rolls, a true Nebraska staple.
Tell us one fun fact or crazy story that relates to the importance of having access to quick
homemade meals for your family?
Oh my! Well I’d have to say it’s the time I fried fish and didn’t take the scales off. I served it to
the kids while cleaning up and made them eat it when they complained. It wasn’t until I finally
sat down that I realized what happed and felt horrible. We threw the fish in the garbage and
looked for another quick meal. Probably ended up with cereal but a Karewich would of been so
